The Parthenon

The Parthenon

Of course, one of the most iconic pieces of classical Greek architecture is The Parthenon located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. This marble temple was built to honor the goddess Athena, the patron of the city. The eight images shown below are from the wonderful book Greece: Pictorial, Descriptive, and Historical by Christopher Wordsworth, which was published in 1839. If you enjoy these illustrations and engravings of The Parthenon, you may also want to view the gallery with images from the Erechtheion and Greek Civilization before you go. Have fun!
