Victorian Dress

This gallery displays twelve amazing illustrations of Victorian Dress in color and black and white. They are from an 1864 issue of Godey’s Lady’s Book, a very popular women’s periodical of the time. One of the women’s fashion trends of the Victorian era included bustles, which were worn to create a more hourglass figure, and leg-of-mutton sleeves, which were very full at the top and tapered down to a narrow cuff. Victorian fashion was a reflection of the social and economic changes that were taking place during this time. The Industrial Revolution was in full swing, and people were starting to move to cities in search of work. This led to a change in fashion, as people began to dress in a more practical way. You can find extensive details about the black and white designs by clicking on an image.
