According to Wikipedia, each immortal’s power can be given to a vessel that can bestow life or destroy evil. If you click on the individual image, there’s a brief description of the qualities of each of the Eight Immortals. The illustrations are from the book Mythology of All Races. It was written by John C. Ferguson and published in 1916.
