St Joan Of Arc

St. Joan of Arc

In this gallery is a selection of eighteen illustrations depicting St. Joan of Arc in color and black and white. They come from two books. The first is Joan of Arc: The Warrior Maid by Lucy Foster Madison and illustrated by Frank E. Schoonover in 1918. The second is The Story of Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orleans by Andrew Lang, which was published around 1906. Included are drawings showing Joan talking to the King, injured in battle, and more. After being captured by the English, Joan was put on trial for heresy and witchcraft. Despite her strong defense, she was found guilty and sentenced to death by burning at the stake. However, over time, doubts arose about the fairness of Joan’s trial, and the Catholic Church eventually declared her a martyr. In 1920, she was canonized as a saint. If you’re finding these images of St. Joan of Arc useful, you can find more on the pages for Joan of Arc and Saint Joan of Arc. Have fun!
