Aztec Symbolism 16

On the right is Chantico (She who dwells in the house), O Quazolotl, the many-headed, the Fire goddess who reigned over the fires in the family hearth. She broke a fast by eating paprika with roasted fish, and was turned into a dog by Tonacatecuhtli as punishment. She was associated with the town of Xochimilco, stonecutters, as well as warriorship. She is holding the Obsidian knife. Facing her is Mocauani, the fasting man in the golden house. In the center top is the blood-stained agave-leaf spike (the precious thorns of mortification).
