Types Of Hounds

Types of Hounds

In this gallery are eight great drawings of different Types of Hounds. They are based on images from the book Dogs, which was written and illustrated by James L. Cannon in 1940. There are illustrations of the Greyhound, a Whippet, Wolfhounds, and others. Hound dogs are generally divided into two main categories based on how they track their quarry: sighthounds and scenthounds. Sighthounds, such as the sleek Greyhound and the agile Whippet, rely on their keen vision and exceptional speed to spot and chase down prey across wide-open spaces. On the other hand, scenthounds, like the persistent Bloodhound and the friendly Beagle, use their powerful noses to follow intricate scent trails over long distances and rough terrain. Beyond these two primary groups, there are also massive guardian breeds like the Irish Wolfhound. Together, these diverse dogs are celebrated for their strong hunting instincts, endurance, and famously independent personalities.
