Robin Hood
On this page are twelve colorful drawings of Robin Hood. They come from the book Robin Hood: His Deeds and Adventures as Recounted in the Old English Ballads. Lucy Fitch Perkins wrote and illustrated the text in 1906. The legendary figure of Robin Hood did not begin as the polished hero of modern cinema, but as a complex character in Old English ballads dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. This early Robin was significantly more violent; he and his men were known to kill their enemies—including the Sheriff—without the “rob from the rich, give to the poor” morality that was added by later writers.
