Pompeii Statues

Pompeii Statues

In this gallery are twelve marvelous drawings of Pompeii Statues. There are marble and bronze figures of Mercury, Apollo, Venus, and more. They are from the book The Houses and Monuments of Pompeii by Fausto and Felice Niccolini, which was published between 1854 and 1896. The Niccolini brothers worked at a time when excavations at Pompeii were becoming more systematic and scholarly. Using the relatively new technology of color lithography, they recorded the sculptures, ruins, wall paintings, household objects, and architectural layouts uncovered by archaeologists. If you like these illustrations of statues from Pompeii, you’ll definitely want to take a look the pages with more Pompeii City Pictures and other illustrations of Pompeii in Ruins. Enjoy!
