The legion had a number of military tribunes which varied over time; there were usually six placed at the head of the cohorts. Immediately above these senior officers was the commander of the legion, the legatus, or profectus legionis. / The impeditus, another legionnaire, a line infantry soldier restored after Trajan's column. / Legion Eagle based on commemorative medals.
