It attempts to capture the wonder and mystery of the natural world as understood in the 17th century. Divided into twelve books, it explores a wide range of topics including so-called “monsters” of nature. Schott combined scientific observation with folklore and early experimental inquiry, reflecting the transitional period between medieval superstition and emerging scientific methods.
