Left to Right: The mirmillon, a gladiator armed with Gallic style and partly Samnite. The mirmillones, who originally would have been Gaulish, formed a class of gladiators who were usually made to fight against the hoplomachs./ Gallic helmet. The one with grid, lined with wool, which appears here, is of Samnite import. It protrudes forward and backward to protect the forehead and neck and has a fixed mask with holes for sight.
