Cute Sea Creatures

Cute Sea Creatures

Initially I though Cute Sea Creatures would be a good name for this gallery. But in actuality, most of these guys look pretty grumpy. Which isn’t surprising when they have names such as Rotten Moron, Deceiver, and Headband. They come from the book Poissons, Ecrevisses et Crabes…, which was written by Mr. Louis Renard in 1754. Translations from the original French and other languages are taken from Fishes, Crayfishes and Crabs: Louis Renard’s Natural History of the Rarest Curiosities of the Seas of the Indies authored by Professor Theodore W. Pietsch in 1995. In each description, I’ve included the original name of the creature as given in Renard’s book, and the translated, accepted, and common names shown in Pietsch’s edition. If you can get past the gloomy dispositions of these supposedly Cute Sea Creatures, you should take a look at the pages with Weird Creatures under the Sea and other Fish from the Ocean. Have fun!
