Aztec Symbolism 18
On the left is Itztapal Totec life-death-rebirth deity, god of agriculture, vegetation, the east, spring, goldsmiths, silversmiths, liberation, and the seasons. He holds an obsidian sacrificial
knife and wears a helmet mask. Facing him is Xiuhtecuhtli (Turquoise Lord or Lord of Fire). He was the god of fire, day and heat. He sits on a jaguar-skin seat. He is holding blood-stained agave-leaf spikes and an incense pouch. In the middle at the bottom is the sign for midnight; above is a fire vessel with flames to be fanned up.
