Public Domain Images from Karen's Whimsy

WELCOME! :: You have arrived at the main page for my public domain images. On the following pages you will find hundreds of beautiful images gleaned from my collection of old books, magazines, and postcards. They are all from material printed prior to 1923 and are in the public domain.

FREE IMAGES :: You don't have to buy any of the images here; they are all free. However, a few are available at a higher resolution for purchase. If you don't see a "Buy" link, then just grab the image and don't worry about paying for it.

TERMS OF USE :: I hope you will enjoy using these pictures. You are free to use them in your artistic endeavors, either privately or commercially. My only request is that you not sell or give away the images themselves either individually or as a collection. I spend a lot of time searching for and buying the source material, scanning, fixing, and editing the images, and then putting them on the web. By respecting these simple terms of use, you allow me to continue providing wonderful artwork that would remain hidden between the covers of these books, decayed from age, or tossed into landfills. Read the details of my Terms of Use for more information.

LINK BACK :: Although not required, if you do find these images helpful, a link or footnote back to this page would be appreciated:

SITE MAP :: Listed below are the most recent public domain images. If you need a complete, detailed list of all the images available on this site, please go to my Site Map for Public Domain Images. Otherwise, use the menu on the left to find what you're looking for or the search box below. Also, if you're looking for something in particular that you are unable to find, send me an email, and I'll see what I can do.

Keep checking back. Public domain images are added regularly. Enjoy!

Here are eight illustrations from a 1915 edition of Little Women by Louisa M. Alcott. These Little Women Characters were illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith.

These eight Pictures of Children were drawn by Anne Anderson for the book Sleepy Song Book, published in 1915.

Drawings of Children

Here is another set of eight Drawings of Children from the Sleepy Song Book.

Child Clipart

These ten examples of Child Clipart come from the Eugene Field Reader compiled by Alice L. Harris in 1905.

Mother Goose Drawings

This collection of Mother Goose Drawings come from a 1915 copy of the rhymes compiled by Eulalie Osgood Grover in 1915. The lovely watercolors were painted by Frederick Richardson.

Mother Goose Illustrations

This second page of Mother Goose Illustrations has eight more drawings by Mr. Richardson. I found this book under a shelf in a used book store in Nevada City. The binding was virtually gone, and the pages were just tucked inside the beaten up covers. I don't think I was meant to find this book, but the book lady reluctantly sold it to me. Score!

Fairy Tale Drawings

I think you're going to like this unique collection of Fairy Tale Drawings by Charles Buckles Falls. They have a colorful art deco-ish style. They are from the The book The The Wild Flower Fairy Book by Esther Singleton.

Fairy Tale Images

Here are eight more Fairy Tale Images from The Wild Flower Fairy Book, published in 1905, illustrating some familiar, and not-so-familiar, fairy tales from around the world.
