Saraswati :: Saraswati Reliquary

I love this vintage image of a Hindu woman gazing at the heavens. I wanted to give her an Indian name and found the name Saraswati. Saraswati is the name of the goddess of creative arts, knowledge, and music. Her name means "the flowing one." Saraswati is the perfect spirit to watch over those who strive to live a creative life and who realize that one of the gifts we receive is our ability to keep learning.

This book is completely covered with decorative papers in varying shades of rich red, cool green, and gold. Glass beaded fringe hangs over Saraswati's head while green beaded flowers lie beneath her feet.

The relic is a postage stamp from India encased in a piece of mica, sealed with gold embossing powder around the edges, and stitched to a pillow of red brocade. As finishing touches, a golden bird charm is surrounded with red stones, and sitting at the bottom left corner is a small metallic and enamel frog.

The cover is wrapped with handmade paper embellished with glitter and decorated with green trim and red and gold beads.
