Reliquary :: A Queen's Games

Aunt Eleanor finally was able to take her dream trip to Europe when she was fifty-three. A nurse all her life, she had spent her adult years caring for others and had never married. Her favorite country abroad was Italy, which is where she found an old weatherbeaten deck of cards at an open-air market one warm summer morning. She gave the deck to me.

The dancer in this reliquary balances on a golden glittered sphere. The gold painted columns are wound with red satin cord and red satin roses are strewn around the base. A black curtain embossed with red glitter hangs about the dancer's head.

The Queen of Clubs is the relic for this piece. It is adhered to an old bingo card with diamond shaped brads. A golden hand of fate dangling a rusty star helps to hold up the card. The background is red and gold paper. The cover of this assemblage art is decorated in paper with an old playing card design, a satin red ribbon, shiney button, and a golden glittered spade.
