Paper Sculpture ~ Land of My Heart

Paper Sculpture ~ Land of My Heart

Forthis paper sculpture I wanted to create a wall hanging that would feel as if I had peeled back the layers and found the heart of the book. Torn and dyed papers create a landscape that reminds me of the hills where I grew up in Marin County, California.

The surface is a highly textured iron oxide acrylic. The pages open up to reveal a serene collage landscape of rolling green hills and perfect blue skies.

Each book sculpture that I make is created from an old book. Every piece is inspired by the title of the book and designed using watercolor and acrylic paints, inks, mediums, and pages taken from the book itself. The books are supported on the back with a wooden frame, and strung with picture hanging wire, allowing them to be hung flat on the wall.
