Paper Art ~ Rising to the Occasion
This is one of my wall hangings whose concept came to me before I found the book. I wanted to create a book sculpture with paper rolls inset into niches. When I saw the red and blue cover, it started me thinking of a patriotic theme. When I turned the book to the center and saw the chapter headings, I knew that Rising to the Occasion fit my vision for the book perfectly.Rolls of red, white, and blue painted paper are embedded in the heart of this piece. The American flag motif overflows from the book, a little frayed at the bottom edge but reaching with optimism and stars at the top.
This paper art was created from an altered book. The book is supported on the back with a wooden frame, and strung with picture hanging wire, allowing it to lie flat on a wall.
