Her father died when she was a baby, and she was raised by her mother and educated at home by a series of governesses. It was said that she was a bright and intelligent child with a keen interest in politics and government. The images here are from the book V.R.I.: Queen Victoria – Her Life and Empire by the Marquis of Lorne, which was published in 1901.
