Celtic Symbols

Celtic Symbols

In this gallery are eighteen black and white drawings of Celtic Symbols. They come from the book Sculptured Stones of Scotland by John Stuart, published in 1867. You’ll find images of the spectacle ornament, crescents, shields, and more. Mr. Stuart writes that the subjects of these illustrations may be divided into two classes–symbols and pictorial representations. The symbols occur by themselves on pillar-stones, while both symbols and pictures are found on the cross-slabs. You can find out more about each symbol by clicking on an individual image. If you find these Celtic Symbols interesting, be sure to take a look at the pages with more Symbols of the Celts from the same book, or the Celtic Cross Drawings. Enjoy!
